PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a metal halide lamp having less flickers and hardly producing cracks in a sealing part.
SOLUTION : This metal halide lamp is provided with an airtight container 1 having a discharge space 1a less than 0.1 cc and sealing parts 1c at its both ends, a pair of electrode 3 having nearly cylindrical tip parts 3a and nearly cylindrical shafts 3b integrally formed at the tips 3a where the diameter R (mm) of the tips 3a and the diameter r (mm) of the shafts 3b satisfy the relations 0.30≤R≤0.40, 0.25≤r≤0.30 and R>r, and sealed in the sealing part 1c so that the tips 3a face each other with the distance of 5 mm or less between the electrodes in the discharge space 1a of the airtight container 1, and a discharge medium sealed in the discharge space 1a of the airtight container 1 and containing metallic halide and rare gas but virtually not mercury. The lamp is lit when the buld wall loading is over 60 (W/cm2). |
