PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a light emitting device for emitting light of large emission intensity and light of various colors.SOLUTION : The light emitting device includes a light emitting element emitting light including ultraviolet light and a phosphor absorbing at least a part of light emitted from the light emitting element and emitting visible light. The phosphor includes at least one kind of chlorides expressed by a following general formula (1) AxByClz as a matrix and includes rare earth element ions expressed by a general formula Lnm+ ((m) shows 2 or 3) as an activator. Here in the formula (1), the symbol A shows an alkali metal or an alkaline earth metal, the symbol B shows a rare earth element, and (x), (y) and (z) respectively show real numbers within ranges of 0.1≤x≤10, 0.1≤y≤10 and 0.4≤z≤60. |
