PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a new magnetic refrigeration material substitutive for an intermetallic compound, especially, the magnetic refrigeration material capable of being used in generating a cold temperature suitable for liquifying hydrogen.
SOLUTION : The magnetic refrigeration material contains at least one kind of rare earth element nitride expressed by the formula : MN (M expresses one or more rare earth metal elements). One or more kinds of elements selected from Nd, Gd, Dy, Ho, Tb and Er are preferably used as the rare earth elements. A nitride expressed by the formula : GdxDy1-xN ((x) is not less than 0 and not more than 1) is concretely exemplified as the rare earth element nitride. The nitride is used in a magnetic refrigeration system, especially in the refrigeration system for a liquid hydrogen production plant, as the magnetic refrigeration material producing a magneto-caloric effect. The rare earth element nitride is used as a cold storage material. |
