PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a rare earth-iron based permanent magnet having a high electric resistance, in which the reduction in coercive force is suppressed. SOLUTION : A rare earth-iron based permanent magnet according to an embodiment hereof can be obtained by sintering a powder mixture including powder of a rare earth-iron based magnet and powder of a low-melting-point glass at a temperature under a temperature at which a liquid phase component of the rare earth-iron based magnet powder starts appearing. The rare earth-iron based magnet powder is magnet powder prepared from an ultraquenched magnet ribbon. It is preferred that the powder mixture includes the rare earth-iron based magnet powder of 30 vol.% or more and 90 vol.% or less, and the low-melting-point glass powder of 10 vol.% or more and 70 vol.% or less.
