PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide an R-T-B based rare earth sintered magnet alloy to obtain an R-T-B based rare earth sintered magnet, which enables the enhancement of a magnetic property (a residual magnetic fluxdensity Br, a coercive force Hcj or a squareness ratio Hk/Hcj) while suppressing abnormal grain growth.
SOLUTION : An R-T-B based rare earth sintered magnet alloy 1 comprises : R which is one or more rare earth elements; T which is one or more transition metal elements, including Fe, or Fe and Co essentially; and B which is boron. In a section obtained by cutting the R-T-B based rare earth sintered magnet alloy along a thickness direction, there are main phases A21a of which the minimum diameter is 10 μm or more and the maximum diameter is 30 μm or more and 300 μm or less. The main phases A21a include R2T14B phases. The areal proportion of the main phases A21a to the whole section is 2% or more and 60% or less.
