PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a manufacturing method of rare earth-iron-nitrogen-based magnetic material, with less unevenness in calcination of a mixture containing a raw material of a magnetic material at reduction-diffusion of an oxide of a rare earth element. SOLUTION : A manufacturing method includes : a molding preparation step of preparing a lumpy molding 50 containing a mixture of oxide powder including a rare earth element and an Fe element, and metal calcium; and a reduction diffusion step of reacting the molding 50 inside a vessel 10 for reduction diffusion. In the reduction diffusion step, an inside of the vessel 10 is irradiated with radiant heat from a plurality of through holes 11 formed at a side face of the vessel 10, to heat the molding 50.
