PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method of separating and collecting rare earth elements as industrial raw materials and valuables having commodity value easily and cheaply without a complicated step, and including a technique of mutual separation of the rare earth elements, especially separation and collection of heavy rare earth elements distinguished from light rare earths.SOLUTION : Rare earth elements are separated and collected through : a step of adding sodium carbonate whose concentration is controlled for a sample containing multiple kinds of rare earth elements, and forming double salts each consisting of carbonates of the multiple kinds of rare earth elements and sodium carbonate and having various solubility; and a step of separating the rare earth elements with the solubility differences of the double salts mutually.
