PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a metal scavenger capable of suppressing deterioration of the fluid contact decomposition catalyst and maintaining high catalytic activity by capturing and immobilizing vanadium which is one of poisoning elements of a fluid contact decomposition catalyst used in a contact decomposition reaction process of a hydrocarbon oil. SOLUTION : A metal scavenger is constituted by carrying oxide of Group II element, which is a first metal component having vanadium capture function such as magnesium or calcium, for example, on a carrier consisting of titanium oxide, and further carrying oxide of rare earth metal, which is a second metal component as a co-catalyst to the first metal component such as lanthanum or cerium, for example. The content of the first metal component is 20 to 80 mass% in terms of oxide based on 100 mass% of the carrier and the content of the second metal component is 20 to 80 mass% in terms of oxide based on 100 mass% of the carrier.
