The present invention provides a method for manufacturing a rare earth magnet which includes the steps of : preparing rare earth magnet powder containing R, Fe, and B as constituent components; mixing a heavy rare earth compound which essentially includes heavy rare earth hydride and further includes any one or more of heavy rare earth oxide and heavy rare earth fluoride, with the rare earth magnet powder; performing the magnetic field formation on the mixed powder; and sintering and diffusing the heavy rare earth at the same time.
