Disclosed is a light emitting material containing a rare earth complex that has : a rare earth atom; a polyoxometalate that is coordinated to the rare earth atom and contains a metal atom and an oxygen atom; and an organic ligand that is coordinated to the rare earth atom. The organic ligand contains an optically active compound; and the amount of substance of one enantiomer of a pair of enantiomers of the optically active compound in the light emitting material is larger than the amount of substance of the other enantiomer.
