PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a rare earth permanent magnet excellent in magnetic properties and having high electric resistance and a method for manufacturing the same in a method for manufacturing a rare earth permanent magnet in which magnetic powders are bonded by Spark Plasma Sintering (SPS) without using a resin. SOLUTION : By using an atomized powder of a rare earth iron based magnet powder, a shape of the magnet powder becomes substantially spherical and a thickness of an oxide film is increased, which makes it possible to reduce the influence of erosion of particles of the magnetic powder by low melting point glass, when a mixed powder obtained by mixing the atomized powder of the magnetic powder and the glass powder containing the low melting point glass is subjected to discharge plasma sintering, so that the relative density of the rare earth permanent magnet is improved and high magnetic characteristics are obtained.
