PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide zirconium oxide nanoparticles useful as a precursor (raw material) of a ceramic excellent in uniformity of transparency and coloration. SOLUTION : There are provided zirconium oxide nanoparticles coated with carboxylic acid, wherein the zirconium oxide nanoparticles contain yttrium and at least one of transition metals other than a rare earth element.
