PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a processing method capable of separating iron from a raw material including a rare earth element and the iron as a solid content to easily collect a leachate including the rare earth element.SOLUTION : The method for collecting a rare earth element comprises : pulverizing a raw material including a rare earth element and iron; adding a sulfuric acid to the raw material to form a slurry and convert the rare earth element and the iron into sulphates; drying the slurry; heating and oxidizing roasting the dried product at a temperature at which the sulfate of the rare earth element is left and the sulfate of the iron is decomposed to be an iron oxide; mixing the roasted material with water to leach the rare earth element; and separating the iron oxide of a solid content as the residue to collect the leachate of the rare earth element.
