Provided is a wavelength conversion material that comprises resin particles resulting from an organic rare earth metal complex being encapsulated in an acrylic resin, and in which degradation of the organic rare earth metal complex is prevented. The wavelength conversion material comprises resin particles comprising an acrylic resin encapsulating an organic rare earth metal complex, and is characterized in that the acrylic resin contains, as a monomer, a hydrophobic monomer having a higher n-octanol/water partition coefficient than that of methylmethacrylate, and furthermore is a polymer obtained by reacting an acrylic resin composition containing a cross-linking agent and an azo initiator.
