PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a magnet having a plurality of magnets with their end faces abutting against each other, and arranged so that a surface magnetic flux distribution at a position in a gap between the end faces takes on a sinusoidal wave form. SOLUTION : A sintered compact for rare earth magnet formation has inner and outer arc-like surfaces with a shape like an arc of a circle in section. Each arc-like surface has, in a circumferential direction, a length corresponding to an angle range 2ω formed by two virtual radius lines which define first and second end faces 1a, 2a. The sintered compact comprises a magnet material having an easily magnetizable axis. The easily magnetizable axis is oriented, on a center radius line Rc connecting between a center O of the circle and a center point A of the outer arc-like surface in the circumferential direction, outwardly along the center radius line in a radial direction. In a central region 2(1-ε)ω, excluding end regions each defined as a region ranging to a particular angle εω from the first or second end face, the easily magnetizable axis is oriented, at a point on an arbitrary radius line located at an angle θ from the center radius line, in a direction changed by a particular angle Φ from a direction outwardly in the radial direction toward the center radius line with respect to the arbitrary radius line in a direction. In the end regions, the easily magnetizable axis is oriented in a direction changed by an angle larger than the angle Φ by 5° or more from the direction outwardly in the radial direction.
