Provided is a nitride phosphor manufacturing method in which a first heat treatment product having a crystallite diameter of 150 nm or more is obtained by heat treating, at a temperature in the range of 800-1800°C, a compound containing at least one type of rare-earth element selected from the group consisting of Y, La, Ce, Lu, and Gd, and a second heat treatment product is obtained by heat treating, at a temperature in the range of 1200-1800°C, a mixture comprising the first heat treatment product and as raw materials included as necessary, an M source containing at least one type of rare-earth element M selected from the group consisting of Y, Lu, and Gd, an La source, an Si source, and a Ce source, and these raw materials are prepared as a preparation composition represented by the compositional formula LawMxSi6Ny : Cez.
