PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide an alkali storage battery which is inexpensive, and has a good discharge output characteristic and an excellent high-temperature durability.SOLUTION : An alkali storage battery comprises a negative electrode of a hydrogen-absorbable alloy which includes La as a main rare earth element, and is expressed by the general formula (LaLn)MgNiT(where T is selected from a group consisting of Al, Co, Mn, and Zn; Ln is at least one element selected from a group consisting of rare earth elements except La, and Y; x>y; 0.09≤z≤0.14; 3.65≤t≤3.80; and 0.05≤u≤0.25). The hydrogen-absorbable alloy includes an A5B19 type structure of hexagonal crystal (2H) system, an A5B19 type structure of trigonal crystal (3R) system, and an A2B7 type structure. In intensity peak of powder X-ray diffraction with Cu-Kα rays, the A5B19 type crystal structure of 2H system is larger than the A5B19 type crystal structure of 3R system and the A2B7 type structure.
