PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method for easily and efficiently recovering rare earth elements from a rare earth element-containing product, and particularly to provide a method for easily and efficiently recovering rare earth elements from a rare earth magnet incorporated in a product. SOLUTION : There is provided a method for recovering rare earth elements which comprises at least the following sequential steps : a step of heating and melting a rare earth element-containing product; a step of adding an oxidizing agent into a solution after heating and melting; a step of adding B2O3 into the solution; and a step of cooling the solution to separate into three phases of a B2O3 phase, a rare earth-rich phase, and an Fe-containing phase and taking out the rare earth-rich phase.
