PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method that can effectively reduce a boron content in a boron-containing oxide of a rare-earth element using a carbonate or an oxide of an alkali metal and recover the oxide of a rare-earth element of a low content of the alkali metal. SOLUTION : A boron-containing oxide of a rare-earth element is subjected to heat treatment together with a carbonate and/or an oxide of an alkali metal in a container made of iron.
