PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a powder metallurgical iron steel having excellent wear resistance even if being a low rare metal content and a low hardness by performing fine structure control using a powder metallurgical technique.
SOLUTION : High speed steel/low carbon steel compounded grains obtained by subjecting the fine crystal grains of high speed steel and the coarse crystal grains of low carbon steel to mechanical milling are press-molded and are thereafter sintered using a discharge plasma sintering method to obtain a powder metallurgical iron steel material made of the fine crystal grain region of the high speed steel formed into a three-dimensional network shape and the coarse crystal grain region of the low carbon steel dispersedly arranged in a state of being involved into the network of the fine crystal grain region, and in which the ratio of the high speed steel is above 25 mass% to below 50 mass% to the whole of the powder metallurgical iron steel material.
