The invention relates to a method for monitoring the condition of a thermal barrier endoscopically comprising the following steps : a) introduction of an endoscopic probe within an engine, the engine comprising a coated part by a thermal barrier wherein the outer layer is comprised of a rare earth oxide capable of producing a color other than black and white when irradiated with a light of a predetermined wavelength, and b) irradiating the outer layer of the thermal barrier by light radiation for rare earth oxide produce a color other than black and white and observation of the outer layer of the thermal barrier colored with the rare earth oxide using the endoscopic probe to monitor the condition of the thermal barrier.
