PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide : a method for manufacturing an electrolyte for a solid oxide fuel battery, by which a dense electrolyte can be obtained without using a sintering assistant at a low sintering temperature; an electrolyte for a solid oxide fuel battery; and a solid oxide fuel battery having such an electrolyte. SOLUTION : An electrolyte for a solid oxide fuel battery comprises : an oxide produced by sintering a coating formed by coating a slurry including (a) first particles having average particle diameter of 0.1-1 μm, and including zirconia particles with a rare earth element and/or an alkali-earth metal dissolved therein, and (b) second particles having a dispersion number average particle diameter of 1-20 nm, and including zirconia particles with a rare earth element and/or an alkali-earth metal dissolved therein, a binder, and a dispersant, and satisfying the following conditions : (c) in the slurry, the ratio b/a of the average particle diameter of the second particles to that of the first particles is 5-100; and (d) the dispersion number average particle diameter of particles included in the slurry is 50-250 nm, which is determined from scattered light intensities on the slurry obtained according to a dynamic light scattering method.
