PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a raw material alloy for a rare earth magnet in which the average crystal grain size being 40 μm or more and the intervals of rare earth-rich phases being below 3 μm.
SOLUTION : Provided is a method for producing a raw material alloy for a rare earth magnet containing : a step where a molten metal M containing rare earth elements, boron and iron is made to flow down into a coolant C having a boiling point of 1, 300°C or higher; and a step where the molten metal M made to flow down into the coolant C is pulled into the coolant by the external magnetic field. In the molten metal M, the content of the rare earth elements being 23 to 51 mass%, and the content of the boron being 0.3 to 2 mass%.
