PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a microwave electrodeless lamp capable of stably emitting ultraviolet rays in a UV-A region without using mercury as a luminescent substance, and a light irradiation device using the microwave electrodeless lamp.
SOLUTION : A microwave electrodeless lamp receiving microwave energy to emit light includes : a tubular discharge container made of quartz glass; and rare gas and a luminescent substance which are sealed in the discharge container. The luminescent substance contains cobalt iodide and a nickel simple substance, and the seal density of the cobalt iodide is 4.0-6.5 μmol/cc, and the seal density of the nickel is 15.0 μmol/cc or less.
