Provided is a wavelength conversion material comprising resin particles resulting from an organic rare earth metal complex being encapsulated in an acrylic resin, the degradation of the organic rare earth metal complex being prevented. The wavelength conversion material, which comprises resin particles comprising an acrylic resin encapsulating an organic rare earth metal complex, is characterized in that the acrylic resin is a polymer obtained by reacting an acrylic resin composition containing an azo initiator, a cross-linking agent, and a (meth)acrylate monomer, and the acrylic resin composition essentially does not contain, as the polymerization initiator, an organic peroxide compound having a group represented by R-C(=O)O- (where R represents a hydrocarbon group that may be freely substituted), and contains as a separate polymerization initiator an organic peroxide compound having a one-minute half-life temperature of no greater than 145°C.
