PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide an infrared reflective material which can suppress a water elution property and can be used for a long period. SOLUTION : A particle surface of the infrared reflective material containing at least one selected from alkaline earth metal elements, a chromium element, a manganese element, an iron element, a copper element, and rare-earth elements is coated with an inorganic and/or organic compound. The inorganic compound is preferably at least one compound selected from silicon, zirconium, aluminum, titanium, antimony, phosphorus, and tin. The infrared reflective material subjected to surface coating treatment in such a manner has a sufficient infrared reflective ability, is further difficult to dissolve in water, has a low degradation in the infrared reflective ability due to elution, can therefore be used for a long period, and can be painted on the roof or external wall of an architectural structure, be made into a resin composition for a film, a sheet, etc., and be painted on a road or a foot path to be utilized for, e.g., relieving a heat island phenomenon.
