Provided is a positive electrode active material for non-aqueous electrolyte secondary batteries which is capable of inhibiting increases in post-cycle DCR. In a positive electrode active material according to one aspect of the present invention, secondary particles formed by agglomerating primary particles comprising a lithium-containing transition-metal oxide including at least Ni each have, adhered into recesses formed in the surface thereof between neighbouring primary particles, rare-earth-compound secondary particles formed by agglomerating particles of a rare-earth compound. The rare-earth-compound secondary particles are respectively adhered to both of the neighbouring primary particles in each of the recesses.
