The present invention provides a process for producing an iridium catalyst, characterized by treating a rare-earth-metal-containing oxide and an oxide of iridium in a solvent. The treatment in a solvent may be to mix the rare-earth-metal-containing oxide with the iridium compound or to impregnate or immerse the rare-earth-metal oxide with or in a solvent solution of the iridium compound. The catalyst of the present invention can be used in a reaction for producing a silylalkene from a hydrosilane compound and an alkene as starting materials by dehydrogenation silylation. This catalyst shows extremely high activity in the dehydrogenation silylation and can be reused without decreasing in catalytic activity. Furthermore, problems associated with the use of a homogenous-system complex catalyst can be solved therewith.
