PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a permanent magnet which allows a Sm-Co based magnet having a composition of a high iron concentration to develop a large coercive force.
SOLUTION : A permanent magnet has a composition expressed by the following compositional formula : RpFeqZrrMsCutCo100-p-q-r-s-t (where R represents a rare earth element; M represents at least one element selected from Ti and Hf; 10≤p≤15; 24≤q≤40.5; 1.5≤r≤4.5; 0≤s≤2.3; 1.5≤r+s≤4.5; and 0.8≤t≤13.5(atom%)). The permanent magnet comprises : a main phase A having a Th2Zn17 type crystal phase; and a grain boundary phase B located at a crystal grain boundary of the main phase A, and having a crystal phase with a Zr concentration of 4-35 atom%. In the permanent magnet, the grain boundary phase B has a thickness in a range of 20-500 nm.
