PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a rare earth metal recovering material and a method for recovering a rare earth metal, capable of easily/simply and inexpensively recovering even a rare earth metal of a low concentration.SOLUTION : The rare earth metal recovering material X includes a nucleic acid 10 having a phosphate group 11 capable of bonding to a rare earth metal Y, a crosslinking molecule 20 having a plurality of reactive groups 21 crosslinked to an amino group 12 of the nucleic acid 10, and a solid phase 30 bonded to an end of the crosslinking molecule 20, in order to recover the rare earth metal Y from a specimen material containing the rare earth metal Y. The method for recovering a rare earth metal includes : a specimen material contact step of bringing the rare earth metal recovering material X into contact with the specimen material having a possibility of containing the rare earth metal Y; a bonding step of bonding the phosphate group 11 of the nucleic acid 10 to the rare earth metal Y; and an elution step of adding an eluate to the rare earth metal recovering material X after the bonding step so that the rare earth metal Y is eluted.
