A method for detecting a rare earth ion in a sample, comprising : a step of bringing the sample into contact with template DNA; a step of carrying out a PCR reaction using the template DNA in the presence of a primer, simultaneously with or subsequent to the step of bringing the sample into contact with the template DNA; and a step of detecting a DNA fragment amplified through the PCR reaction.
