The present invention relates to a composite material for storing hydrogen in which a material for storing magnesium-based hydrogen is alloyed with an oxide having a catalytic effect and to a method of preparing the same, and is characterized by adding 3wt% to 12wt% of a rare-earth-doped ABO3 perovskite-type oxide to magnesium hydride. According to another aspect of the present invention, a method of preparing a composite material for storing magnesium-based hydrogen includes : preparing magnesium hydride; preparing a rare earth-doped ABO3 perovskite-type oxide; and mixing the magnesium hydride and the rare earth-doped ABO3 perovskite-type oxide to perform a mechanical alloying process thereon. Since a composite material for storing magnesium-based hydrogen, configured as described above, of the present invention includes magnesium hydride, a rare earth-doped ABO3 perovskite-type oxide, and particularly yttrium-doped barium cerate as constituent components thereof, the composite material has an effect of improving a hydrogen storage property by magnesium hydride.COPYRIGHT KIPO 2015
