PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide an R-T-B based magnet having high coercive force, and a method for manufacturing such an R-T-B-based magnet.SOLUTION : A method for manufacturing an R-T-B based rare earth sintered magnet comprises the steps of loading and sintering a compact of first alloy powder and an alloy material of a second alloy into a chamber of a sintering furnace. The first alloy consists of : rare earth elements R; transition metals T including Fe as an essential element; a metal element M consisting of Al and/or Ga; B; Cu; and inevitable impurities. The first alloy includes 11-17 atom% of R, 5-6 atom% of B, and 0-1.6 atom% of M with the balance including T; Dy accounts for 0-29 atom% of all the rare earth elements. The second alloy consists of : rare earth elements R; transition metals T including Fe as an essential element; a metal element M consisting of Al and/or Ga; B; Cu; and inevitable impurities. The second alloy includes 11-20 atom% of R, 4.5-6 atom% of B, and 0-1.6 atom% of M with the balance including T; Dy accounts for 0-29 atom% of all the rare earth elements.
