PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a material having an ability for selectively detecting a lanthanoid-series rare earth metal group, and to provide a method for sensing the lanthanoid-series rare earth metal group. SOLUTION : The method for sensing the lanthanoid-series rare earth metals (La, Ce, Sm, Ev, Gd, Tb and Dy) includes producing boron dipyrromethene-calix[4]arene represented by structural formula (1) according to the chemical reaction equation, calculating association constants from absorption spectra of mixed solutions of acetylacetonato compounds of the lanthanoid-series rare earth metals with the calixarene, and sensing the metals based on the results.
