PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method for producing a modified polymer which can rearrange main chains and can introduce functional groups to a main chain structure thereof by decomposing and recombining two or more kinds of polymers. SOLUTION : Two or more kinds of polymers having carbon-carbon double bonds in their main chains are degraded by oxidatively cleaving the carbon-carbon double bonds to reduce their molecular weight, and a system including the degraded polymers is recombined the polymer chains to obtain a modified polymer having modified molecular structure by changing acidity and basicity such that when the system is acidic the system is made basic or, conversely, when the system is basic the system is made acidic.
