PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a hydrogen storage alloy having excellent cycling characteristics, a large amount of hydrogen stored and reduced self emission of hydrogen.
SOLUTION : A hydrogen storage alloy consists of two or more crystal phases having mutually different crystalline structures laminated in the c axis direction of the crystalline structures and has a composition of formula R1nR2pR4qR5r, where R1 is one or more elements selected from rare earth elements including Y; R2 is Mg; R4 is one or more elements selected from Ni and Co or a combination of one or more elements selected from Ni and Co and one or more elements selected from Fe, Cu, Zn, Si, Sn, V, Ti and Zr; R5 is one or more elements selected from Mn and Al; and 16≤n≤23, 2≤p≤8, 68.5≤q≤76.1, 2≤r≤6.5 and n+p+q+r=100. The content of the crystal phase having a CaCu5 crystalline structure is 9.8 mass% or smaller.
