A magnetic assembly is provided, comprising a generally cylindrical rare earth magnet surrounded mostly by a perimeter wall. The perimeter wall does not envelop the entire rare earth magnet. The particular shape of the perimeter wall, including the location of a notch in the perimeter wall, causes the magnetic lines of flux of the rare earth magnetic to be redirected. The use of several such magnetic assemblies in a motor-generator system can affect the operation of the motor-generator system by reason of their redirected magnetic flux lines.
