The purpose of the present invention is to provide a rare earth complex having superior heat-resistance compared to Europium complexes of the prior art, and to provide an application for said complex. This rare earth complex is a complex containing a rare earth element such as Eu, wherein a ligand (a) selected from a group of ligands represented by general formula (A) is coordinated to the rare earth element in a quantity of 0.3-0.7 ligands per atom of the rare earth element, a specific ligand (b) having a bipyridine skeleton or a phenanthroline skeleton is coordinated to the rare earth element in a quantity of 0.8-1.2 ligands per rare earth element atom, a specific ligand (c) having one diketonate structure in the ligand is coordinated to the rare earth element in a quantity of 1.6-2.4 ligands per atom of the rare earth element, and if the number of ligands (a) per atom of rare earth element is defined as α, and the number of ligands (c) is defined as γ, 2α + γ falls within the range of 3.0 to 3.4.
