Treating drinking water for water-containing installations or devices, comprises softening the water to be treated by an ion exchanger (2) by exchange of alkaline earth metal ions with hydrogen ions, and treating the water to be treated with a corrosion inhibitor (3) formed by tricalcium diphosphate and/or trimagnesium diphosphate. An independent claim is also included for a device for water treatment of drinking water for water-containing installations or devices, comprising an ion exchanger for softening the water to be treated and corrosion inhibitor for introducing orthophosphate ions into the water to be treated.
