PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method for producing a layered rare earth hydroxide simply and inexpensively. SOLUTION : The method for producing the layered rare earth hydroxide is characterized by comprising a step to hydrolyze the salt of a rare earth element by decomposing hexamethylenetetramine (HMT) or urea in a mixed aqueous solution consisting of the salt of the rare earth element, hexamethylenetetramine (HMT) or urea and a solvent containing water.
