PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method for producing rare earth oxide having a reduced particle diameter. SOLUTION : In this production method, in a solution containing a condensation inhibitor for suppressing the condensation of precipitates produced by the reaction between a rare earth-containing salt and an alkaline substance, the salt and the alkaline substance are reacted, and the obtained precipitates are heat-treated.
