Composite material comprises a polymeric material in which inorganic fluorescent particles containing at least one rare earth metal of cerium, praseodymium, neodymium, promethium, samarium, europium, gadolinium, terbium, dysprosium, holmium, erbium, thulium, ytterbium, lutetium or yttrium are distributed, where the composite material has a mean equivalent diameter of 2 nm to 2 mu m, the fluorescent particles have absorption bands of 320-480 nm and the material is free of surfactant, organic solvent or diluent, organic dispersing agent or apatite. Composite material comprises a polymeric material in which inorganic fluorescent particles containing at least one rare earth metal of cerium, praseodymium, neodymium, promethium, samarium, europium, gadolinium, terbium, dysprosium, holmium, erbium, thulium, ytterbium, lutetium or yttrium are distributed, where the composite material has a mean equivalent diameter of 2 nm to 2 mu m, the fluorescent particles have absorption bands of 320-480 nm, the material is free of surfactant, organic solvent or diluent, organic dispersing agent or apatite and the polymer does not contain phosphonate function or phosphonic acid function. An independent claim is included for preparing the composite material comprising mixing the fluorescent particles with the polymer and formatting the mixture.
