PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a mass spectroscope in which noise derived from rare gas atom such as He* in quasi-stable state can be reduced without causing a significant cost increase.
SOLUTION : In a GCMS using He as carrier gas for introducing a sample into a column 12, metallic components such as a QMF 36 provided between the ionization chamber 32 of an MS section 30 and a detector 38, or an ion lens 37 in front of the detector have a work function smaller than the ionization energy of He atom in quasi-stable state. Consequently, generation of secondary ions due to interaction of the metallic component and the He atom in quasi-stable state is suppressed, and background noise due to detection of secondary ions can be reduced.
