The present invention relates to a cascaded photon-emitting nanoparticle partially consisting or at least one crystal matrix of formula (I) : Na(1-n)XF(4-n), where n is equal to 0 or 1, and X is a rare earth element selected from yttrium, gadolinium and lanthanum; or of formula (III) : MF2, where M is selected from magnesium, calcium, strontium and barium, said nanoparticle being : codoped, at the crystal matrix(es), with the terbium and ytterbium, with a doping rate for Tb of 1 to 15% relative to X, and a doping rate for Yb of 1 to 30% relative to X; and functionalized at the surface thereof by at least one organic ligand capable of absorbing photons having a wavelength of between 300 and 500 nm and capable of transferring the absorbed photon energy to the terbium. The invention further relates to the use of such nanoparticles for forming a spectral conversion layer in a photovoltaic device.
