Process for quantifying trace amounts of atoms of a stable or radioactive noble gas in a given atmosphere, for example of argon, characterized in that it comprises at least the following steps : . a step of discharge (101), producing, in a discharge zone, a given proportion of all the isotopes on a given metastable electronic level of said noble gas, . a step of quantification (102) by a high-sensitivity cavity laser absorption measurement process for measuring traces of said noble gas at said given metastable electronic level. The invention also relates to a quantification device for the implementation of such a process.
