PURPOSE : A copper-based catalyst for dehydration and a method for manufacturing the same are provided to prevent the generation of byproducts such as acetic acid, ethyl acetate, and crotonaldehyde by implementing synthesis without a harmful metal such as chromium. CONSTITUTION : A copper-based catalyst for dehydration synthesizes acetaldehyde based on ethanol. The catalyst includes a copper, silicon dioxide, and an alkali metal or an alkali earth metal. The molar ratio of the copper, the silicon dioxide, and the alkali metal or the alkali earth metal is 1 : 0.2-5.0 : 0.005-0.1. The silicon dioxide is derived from silicate. A method for manufacturing the catalyst includes the following : distilled water is added into a copper precursor, and the mixture is stirred and dissolved to obtain a copper precursor aqueous solution; a silicate aqueous solution is obtained; the copper precursor aqueous solution is mixed with the silicate aqueous solution to obtain copper-silicate slurry; the copper-silicate slurry is aged; and the copper-silicate slurry is molded and plasticized to obtain the catalyst.
