PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a fluorescent lamp, which has the sufficiently high luminance, compared to that of the conventional fluorescent lamp, as the luminance of a fluorescent lamp and in which the used amounts of rare earth elements are made small. SOLUTION : The fluorescent lamp has : a light-transmissive tubular envelope; a fluorescent film disposed on an inner wall of the light-transmissive tubular envelope; and mercury and a rare gas, which are enclosed in the light-transmissive tubular envelope. In the fluorescent lamp, the fluorescent film is made to emit light by using the ultraviolet light, which is emitted by electric discharge in the mercury and has 180-380 nm wavelength, and thereby light is emitted from the light-transmissive tubular envelope. The fluorescent film contains the LaxOyS : Tb phosphor (wherein 1.8≤x≤2.2, 1.8≤y≤2.2) obtained by mixing a La source, a Tb source and a sulfur source, which are fundamental elements constituting the phosphor, with alkali metal carbonate as raw materials and firing an obtained mixture.
