PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a sintered compact used for a rare earth magnet which has a high degree of orientation and a large value of residual magnetization and a manufacturing method of magnetic powder for forming the same.
SOLUTION : A sintered compact S comprises : crystal grains g2 which are a Nd-Fe-B based main phase of a nanocrystal composition; and a grain boundary phase which exists around the main phase. The sintered compact is a precursor of a rare earth magnet which is formed by applying hot plastic processing to the sintered compact S to add anisotropy and diffusing an alloy in it for improving coercive field strength. The crystal grain g2 constituting the sintered compact S is a rectangular shape consisting of c-axis direction sides and sides orthogonal to the c axial direction (a-axis direction), or a shape approximated to the rectangular shape when seeing a planar shape of the crystal grain g2 from a direction orthogonal to an easy magnetization direction (c-axis direction).
