PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method for treating food residue, in which the food residue is decomposed and digested, and is converted into an earthworm compost by using earthworm; then the compost is used as an organic fertilizer; and further, a liquid fertilizer obtained in the process for converting the food residue into the earthworm compost is supplied to the soil or the like of an agricultural field without requiring cost. SOLUTION : A box 2 for an earthworm farm 1 is formed with a square-shaped circumferential wall 21 and a bottom wall 22, then the bottom wall 22 is formed into an inclined face inclining downward to one side wall from opposing the other side wall, and a plurality of openings 21a communicating with the surface of the bottom wall 22 are formed at lower end parts of the one side wall. The box 2 is provided along one side of an agricultural field F so that the one side wall, in which the openings 21a are formed, may nearly face one side of the agricultural field F. After an earth worm growing bed 3 is laid in the box 2, food residue is sprayed on the earth worm growing bed 3. Thereby, the sprayed food residue is decomposed and digested by the earth worm and is converted into an earthworm compost.
