ＲAn R-T-B sintered magnet (100) that contains particles containing R2T14B phase obtained using R-T-B alloy flakes that contain R2T14B phase crystal grains. With regard to the R-T-B alloy flakes, the crystal grain in the cross section in the thickness direction extends in a radial direction from the crystal nucleus, and the following formula (1) is satisfied, where the average length of one side of the crystal grain in the direction perpendicular to the thickness direction and the average length on the other side are defined as D1and D2respectively, the average particle diameter of the particles falls within the range of 0.5-5μｍ, and the flakes are effectively free of heavy rare earth elements. 0.9≦Ｄ2/D1≦1.1 (1)
